We are writing to you with some news about the SENDsuccess service.
We are pleased to inform you that the SENDsuccess contract with the local authority has been extended for 2 more years, from September 2019 to August 2021. There will, however, be changes to the way the service is delivered across Waltham Forest.
Whole School SEND Support
The focus from September 2019 will change to a service primarily for whole school SEND support, facilitated by our specialist teachers for autism and learning difficulties, rather than individual pupil referrals. Therefore the primary remit of the SENDsuccess service will now be to:
- increase knowledge and understanding of SEND in mainstream schools
- upskill and empower staff to meet the needs of their pupils with SEND
- contribute to improving the outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
Core Support/Targeted Support and Traded Services
All schools will be entitled to a core offer of support from the service for the academic year, to meet the above outcomes. An extended package of support will also be available to those schools where risk factors have been identified such as high levels of exclusions of pupils with SEND, or disproportionate applications for EHCPs. We will negotiate with schools about this extended package, so that we are responsive to meeting identified needs.
For schools wishing to buy in further support, a traded offer will also be made available.
Support for Sensory Needs
A sensory caseload (HI/ VI) will still be maintained and support for those children will continue with a combination of staff training and advice for individual students as appropriate.
We will be holding be a SENCO meeting early in September to explain the changes, what the core and extended offers will be and how the service will work in more detail. Further information will also be sent out to all schools at this point.
We look forward to working with you all to provide the support you need to help you to meet the needs of your children with SEND.
